Welcome to the return of SacAnime’s Manga Contest. Originally created in 2005, it ran for 10 years before we finally ended it in 2015. We always enjoyed hosting the contest and felt now was an excellent time to bring it back.

SACANIME PUBLICATIONS (previous winners and entries)

RULES:

  • Entries are due by July 1st, 2023.
  • Entries must be a combination of art and story. Artless scripts will not be considered, just as random art without a story will not be considered.
  • There are no specific theme requirements, just tell a good story.
  • Entries must consist of 1 file in unlocked pdf format (we have to be able to import individual pages into Photoshop if need be). If this is not possible, please contact us so other arrangements can be made.
  • Naming structure must be: artistsname_mangacontest.pdf. This is to avoid confusion regarding who entered what.
  • Artist/writer teams are allowed.
  • All Entries will be published online.
  • Amateur (Unpublished) creators only – for the sake of this contest, self-publishing will not be considered “published”.
  • Winning entries may be printed in a small run for distribution during the show.
  • All characters/concepts must be original – fanfiction/fanart is not allowed.
  • Creators retain all rights to their creations. SacAnime does have the right to publish all entries online as well as a possible small physical print run.
  • Submitted artwork must be 8.5”x11” – 300dpi.
  • Rule Update: Entries would work best if created or at least finished digitally since the end product is a digital file to be published online.
  • Entries may be either black and white, color or any combination.
  • Entries must have a cover and a title page.
  • The cover should be in color.
  • Entries must be a minimum of 12 pages and a maximum of 48 pages, in multiples of 4 (12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48). This includes the cover and title page.
  • Entries must tell a complete story – no cliff hangers or wider story arcs please.
  • Entries must not have been previously published.
  • Profanity is not allowed.
  • Entrants under 18 must have their parents written permission to enter the contest.
  • Entries should be in American format (front to back, left to right) as opposed to Japanese (back to front, right to left).
  • SacAnime reserves the right to refuse or require adjustments to any entry. This would only be as a last resort and due to profanity or themes deemed too adult for a general audience.
  • Fill out our Media Release Form and email it to sacanime@gmail.com with the subject “media release form”. Any questions may also be directed to that email address.
